Teenage Pregnancy had become a serious issue in countries across the world. Raising children to stay out of trouble and avoid risky behavior is really hard considering the influence of the society, surroundings and the internet. Parents sometimes don't even have control over their children's lives and don't know what children do in school and after school which makes it hard to provide them with adequate care and guidance. Prevention of this problem should be out first priority.

According to World Health Organization (WHO) 20 percent of Filipino women get pregnant at the age of 19 and less.

Last 2019 the Philippines has recorded a total of 180,916 live births among adolescent aged 10-19 , according to the data from Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System of the Philippine Statistics Authority.

The figure is equivalent to 495 live births per day in the 10-19 age group. Also , only 3 percent of all live births within the adolescent age group are fathered by men on the same age group.


Possible Reason of Teenage Pregnancy

peer pressure
engaging on liquors and beverage
lack of information about sex
internet and social media
 personal problems

Ways to Avoid and Prevent Teenage Pregnancy

Enough knowledge about Family Planning and the us of contraceptive (birth control pills and condoms)
close and strong relationship of the teenager to its family
introduce Sex Education to the kids and how important it is
If possible, Parents should be their kid's ''bestfriend" .Kids should be open to their parents.
Also, parents should know their kid's friend or who are their company or with.
• Always remember that "Prevention is better than cure"

Possible Effect of Teenage Pregnancy

Sex -related illness
 abortion
 forces girls to leave school
 jeopardizing their economic prospect
excluding them from other opportunities
Physical, emotional, psychological and mental problems
• Teenage Pregnancy also affect our economy. According to UNFPA Country Representative Klans Beck "Every year, The Philippines forfeits around 30 pesos billions in lost income alone due to early pregnancy.

The government were alarmed by this cases and on June ,25,2021 , President Rodrigo Duterte signed an Executive Order declaring the Prevention of Teenage Pregnancy a National Priority in the Philippines.

 
Bislig City also conducted a campaign programs that aim to provide Awareness on Teenage Pregnancy.

Also, the SK Council of Bislig conduct an Orientation on Adolescent Health and Development highlighting Teenage Pregnancy Awareness.

Officials and authorities are already taking their actions. So it's time for us , teenagers to do the same. Be Responsible and let us do our role in the community, "The Hope of the Nation" like what Dr. Jose Rizal said. It's our job to create a better nation not the opposite of it.

It's not too late for us ,we can still do something. Our nation's future depends on us ,let us not disappoint their expectations and fail to commit Dr. Rizal's word.
